Whirlwind

Okey Dokey, lots to tell so here we go!

1.   Saturday had Tom and Tina over for dinner. Tom works with Big C.  They are a super nice couple and have 2 grandsons so they were like professionals here with these boys.  My often shy little CJ just came right out of his shell and was Mr. Talkative.  CD was in show-off mode too!  Mr. Tom is a neat guy and Mrs. Tina is a sweetheart.  We had a wonderful dinner!

2.   Sunday we skipped church.  Our whole family was coughing this weekend so we decided to spare our fellow churchgoers and stay home.  We needed to rest.  Sunday night we went out to eat at Carrabba’s, a little family Valentine’s dinner.  Had a blast! The boys were great, ate lots, and then we went for ice cream! Doesn’t get any better than that.

3.   This morning CJ had a dentist appointment. It was his first (I know, he should've been by now but we’re a little behind schedule due to the move last summer).  Anyways, if you’ve never been to the dentist with a toddler you're missing out.  He did great, he just doesn’t like to lay flat on his back.  The poor thing must have abs of steel because he was in this half sit-up position for the longest time, he RE-fused to lay down!  Thankfully pediatric dentists deal with this every day and it was no sweat.  There were girls coming from every direction, holding up monkeys, swinging tv’s around closer, passing out balloons, etc.  I thought, Am I at the circus or the dentist? It was quite entertaining and I was impressed!  Long story short, the kid has great teeth and the dentist’s staff is probably exhausted (yet very talented).

4.   The Dr. was nice enough to give CD a quick exam as well.  He too passed with flying colors, he has great “teeps”.

5.   Today is Valentine’s Day, hello.  We’ve been running so fast this morning we nearly forgot.  Husband and I don’t go all out for Valentine’s Day typically, just a nice dinner and some candy for the kiddos (which we kinda did last night).  Though this year the boys and I did get Daddy a nice surprise, we’ll share tomorrow! Fun fun!

6.   Now we have a few more errands to run and my head is just spinning! Laundry is piled up to the ceiling and I’d better get started.  I will probably not finish till next Monday as usual.

Time to Play!

We had a great Friday at a place called ARTpark with our MOMS club.  They had it all—painting, magic markers, easels, crayons, playdoh, stampers, a HUGE chalkboard, you name it, they had it.  Thankfully they also had smocks!  Our pal Evie was there too and the boys were excited to see her.  It was really nice because the room was just small enough that it was pretty easy to keep an eye on both boys.  After lots of messy playtime we had pizza and decorated Valentine cookies.  YUM! CJ of course ate no pizza but wolfed down several cookies and CD was happy with both, though he too favored the cookies.  Every time I turned around it seemed he had a new cookie!  I lost count of how many cookies they ate.  We will definitely be excited to go back to ARTpark.

Hangin' at Home

Today we’ve got lots-o-snow again but the sun is shining so it’s quite pretty! But it's tooooo too cold to go outside.  So we look at it from inside.  CJ started the day by running to the window and saying “Mama, it snowed and it is big tall of snow!”  What a creative sentence, he wakes up so happy and says such cute things and it makes me happy.  CD went to the window and said “It’s a soccer ball”.  Ha! He noticed the ball in the yard but not the mountains of snow. 

At lunch CJ asked me if the cheese on my salad “belonged” to my salad.  He’s got some funny questions today!  Then, for at least 10 minutes he talked on the imaginary phone to my neighbor asking her lots of questions and then saying, “You’re kidding!”  These boys have had me laughing today. 

Here’s a pretty find for today—I’ve been looking for fabrics and artwork for the boys’ rooms because CJ will be moving to a full bed and CD will inherit the twin.  I love the framed pictures in this room (I think they look so clean and pretty) and this little etsy shop too because I’ve been dying to get a framed “You are my sunshine” picture for the boys (my Nana used to sing it to me:). I love that this gal tells you where everything is from too, like the frames being from Target, which is a pleasant surprise!

Who needs sunshine

When you have a friend like Evie!  Our sweet little friend Evie came to play yesterday afternoon.  CD affectionately refers to Evie as “Ebbie” and he adds extra southern emphasis on the “E”. Love to hear him say it!  When she arrives they run to the door and squeal with delight.  Immediately the chasing begins and they play, play, play!  CJ gets so excited that he does a cute little dance where he kind of jogs in place and swings his arms.  It is so fun to have a little girl around too (and so close by!), and guess what? She even loves cars!  Evie is such a little ray of sunshine and we love having her as a friend. Wish I had some pictures, next time I will make it a point to grab my camera!

A day or two ago I was wishing for spring.  Well it arrived, kind of, ha! Look at what my mom sent.

A box full of spring clothes, yay!  So I have to brag on my sweet mom, she has a pal who owns a beautiful children’s boutique (I worked there in my late teens and had a ball) and every season she shops for the boys and sends ALL their clothes.  For the season. The whole season.  ALL their clothes.  I literally never buy them a thing, except shoes and PJ’s.  I feel so incredibly blessed that she does this.  When the boxes arrive it’s like Christmas, the boys and I tear through them and get so excited!  CJ will take an outfit out of the box and say “Oh wow, it’s beautiful!”  So thank you mom, we looooove you and appreciate you BIG TIME!  You keep these boys looking like a million bucks!

Well more snow is on the way so we’re hanging at home today.  How is it Wednesday already?

P.S.  CJ's eye is healing beautifully!

Happy Monday

Our weekend got off to a scary start. On Friday morning CJ was playing, standing on one of his brother's toys (that rolls) and it slid out from under him.  Wham, right down on the edge of the coffee table he went. The corner of his eye took the hit and my baby had a major shiner.  We iced and iced and he was fine, but mommy wasn’t.  It just about broke my heart every time I looked at him. So, you won’t be seeing many pictures for a few days… But he’s just fine.  His eye is perfectly fine, just a little black and blue, and I am another 10 years older. 

Friday night Big C and I headed out to dinner. We were early so we stopped at Barnes and Noble so that I could pick up a few books.  The parking lot was super crowded.  We thought, wow, how strange for a bookstore to be this busy on a Friday night.  When we walked in the manager asked if we were there for the book signing.  We were Mr. and Mrs. Clueless.  "What book signing?"  He said that Winona Judd was there signing books.  Well shut up!! I used to love the Judd's, so I grabbed a book and got in line. Unfortunately the line was moving too slowly and we didn't want to miss our dinner reservation so we left.  Oh well, maybe next time Winona!

Well Saturday we had a lazy day (aren’t those the best) and that night we headed to our neighbors’ for dinner.  CJ and CD just make themselves at home, they were so happy to see Evie and play with new toys.   Dinner was beyond delicious and I have some fantastic new recipes to add to my “go to” dinners.  When we left Evie gave the boys hugs and it is just the cutest thing in the world.

Superbowl Sunday is not typically a big day for us but we always try to do a little something.  We made a big ole pot of chili and hunkered down. We were thinking we’d just relax. Ha! The kids must’ve sensed that we were tired and so they were WILD.  They were bouncing off the walls and running and jumping and when we finally got them in bed we were exhausted!  So happy to sit on the couch and relax, and that’s what we did. 

Now it is raining again here, scratch that, it’s snowing, and I am wondering what is going on!!! We must’ve drawn the crazy weather card this year because we only see the sun here about once a week!  I’m so ready for sunshine.  Spring, please hurry!!

Friday Funnies and Flashbacks

Here are some things these boys of mine are doing and saying that are too funny not to share. 

CD Translations:
teeps = teeth
pie sissies = rice krispies
mini meats = mini wheats (we eat a lot of cereal obviously)
tracteeeer = tractor
racy car = race car

Funny randoms:
1. One morning at breakfast CD smeared cream cheese from his bagel across his chest and looked at me like he was daring me to say something.
2. CJ told me my breath was "stinky"!! Nice.
3. CJ said his tummy hurt and he needed chocolate to "feel me better". ha! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Funny/crazy things I've done this week:
1. Almost left the house in my PJ's not once, but twice. I am losing it.
2. Wore my sweater inside out ALL day without noticing. I'm hoping CJ's teachers at school didn't notice or they are going to know think I am nuts.

Little CJ's Eye Dr. Visit

Today we had a visit to the eye doctor for little Mr. CJ.  I notice that he sometimes squints one eye and so we thought we’d go for a check-up.  I was expecting a clean bill of health because this isn’t our first trip to the eye doctor but I got worried when they moved us to a different room to re-check something.  His Dr. told me that he has "intermittent exotropia" meaning that intermittently each eye wanders outward.  To know my little guy you would never notice this.  She says it’s fairly common, means his eyes aren’t always working in unison, and can affect his eye development.  His daddy had this and had to have surgery when he was a toddler.  So when she told me this my heart immediately leaped into my throat and my eyes filled with tears.  I don’t want my baby to have to have surgery!   I tried not to look like an idiot and fall apart and the Dr. was so sweet and compassionate (turns out she has a son his age).  She reassured me that in the realm of things that are big deals, this is not one, it is a teeny tiny speed bump.  So my little sweetie will wear an eye patch for a couple of hours daily and get eye checks every couple months.  Hopefully there is no surgery in his future and these patches will help.  It’s also possible for his eyes to heal on their own so we are going to be hopeful that this happens.

The good thing is that right now he doesn’t mind the patch at all. So I’m hoping that he will adjust easily to this routine.  It just breaks my heart to see him have to wear it.  He is such a good sport though.  He was a dream at the doctor’s office and is happily singing to the Wiggles with his little patch on.  He’s having fun being a pirate.  This is my sweet little CJ, he just takes things in stride.

CD accompanied us to the doctor and did not take things in stride.  He screamed like a pterodactyl and let us know he had had enough, thank you.  My sweet CD.  I went through an entire bag of tricks (this was before I fell apart), stickers, fruit snacks, cheese crackers, apple juice, tissues, etc.  Sometimes I feel like a jester and that I should learn to juggle! CD is a challenge, a doll, but a challenge!!
