Let's catch up

3.19.2011

Thursday my boys had an appointment with their pediatrician (whom they loooove and boy does that make life easier).. It was CD's 2 year appointment and CJ was also seen for his eye.  Remember when he fell and hit the corner of his eye on the coffee table?  It healed nicely, but there is still some redness (a month later) and one day when I pressed on it I noticed a lump underneath.  So the Dr. wanted to take a look.

So happy to report that Dr. P says it is NOT a bone fragment, that he sees this often with hard hits.  He says its just a common type of reaction, it may go away, it may not, but it's no big deal.  Phew!!

Also, my sweet CD got a great report, he's still 25th percentile for weight and 75th for height! Do I have a basketball player on my hands?? Should I go ahead and fill out the Duke application?? CD also told Dr. P that he was 5 years old and starting kindergarten! Little stinker.. I guess because he's always had CJ to talk to he just talks up a crazy storm.

Friday I decided I needed a clean house.  It was time to commit.  Doing projects has gotten me so far behind, with 4 loads of clean laundry in the floor to be folded and 4 more loads in need of washing.  My baseboards were hairy, my floors sticky, my carpet yuckola, and something had to be done.  The weather here has been beautiful, too, which always puts me behind...I feel like I'm robbing my children if we stay inside to clean vs going outside to nurture their little spirits.  Why do I stress myself out so much??  But Friday we had no choice but to CLEAN... And we have finally caught up, which should last a few hours until the little tornadoes tear this place apart again:)

Its Saturday, hooooray:) Happy Weekend!!

John Deere City
PS  I've been stalking Tory Burch for sales and these are on sale for $128 (from $350!!).. I have nowhere to wear them (I'm in the market for flats) but maybe you do:)

You gotta love Target

3.17.2011

I've been looking for some new fabric to recover the pillows on our leather couches.  I've been wanting something geometric-ish, fresher, brighter, and more modern than our current ones but I also need it to be cheap:) Got lots-o-things on my want list lately..

Check out this pretty fabric I found at TARGET--its a tablecloth!

Inspired by the napkin pillows on Centsational Girl, I wandered through the cloth napkin/tablecloth aisle and this caught my eye.  I will be able to make 3, yes three 24 x 24 inch pillows for a total of $20 bucks!  Yeah!

Old pillow:

and new pillow! Yay!

You just gotta love Target!!

CJ's new room

3.16.2011

So the Nana's have been wanting to see CJ's room and I finally have it done!

I wanted CJ to have a fun, colorful room.  I tend to err on the side of boring and I tried to break out of my shell this time.  I love polka dots but I was afraid they might be too girly.  Big CJ stepped in and said, "Hey listen, he's 3.  If you want polka dots, do polka dots, just be sure they aren't pink."  Words of wisdom.

I fell in love with the whimsical-ness of these fabrics and I loved the stripes and polka dots together.

I wanted prints that we could change themes easily...  I'd seen an adorable quilt at PotteryBarn that had race-cars on it, but I decided that perhaps we'd be better off with the bedding being a non-theme print, meaning when he decides he likes something other than trucks and cars we can just change out the throw pillows.  The walls are a really subtle blue, Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams (my kitchen is also this color) and they actually photograph a tad lighter than they are.  I made the duvet and used a full sheet from Target for the underside to cut my cost a bit (the polka dot fabric was a little pricey).  I made the curtains out of inexpensive brown fabric from JoAnn Fabrics, just a simple square with red ribbon trim.

The print below is from B at Mod Memento; it's probably my favorite thing in the room.  I love it so much because I feel like the words really capture CJ at this precious time in his life..  I covered the matte in some linen that I had left over from a different project (another tip I got from B's blog:) CJ's name is almost the exact color of the walls. Love it!

The print above is from Pretty Smitten.  I loved it because my Nana used to sing that song to me and I've sung it to my sweet little guys a million times.

I used his old lamp, spray painted the stem brown, and covered the lampshade in leftover fabric.  I also made the initial plaques above his bed.  I painted the wooden plaques brown, then taped and painted stripes on the letters, and hot glued them on.

Well there you have it! Not earth-shattering I know, but a room that my little guy seems to be having fun with.  Oops, I almost forgot-- I painted his bookcase red for some pizazz and also made a hanger with supplies from Michaels:)

Happy Wednesday;)

Does cookie monster have teeth?

3.14.2011

Today we stayed home and I worked almost all day on CJ's room.  Still not done, but close.  The boys were so very good.  They played together just beautifully, beautifully I tell you.  While I was cutting fabric in my kitchen floor and running back and forth to the sewing machine they either played with each other or with my fabric scraps.  They were troopers today!  Since it was a "work" day I left the boys in their PJ's and I didn't even put on make-up.  Around 2 o'clock Little CJ told me he really wanted to put on some new clothes.  I gave him an outfit and he dressed himself, with NO help!! I mean shirt on the right way and pants too!  Another milestone, he was as proud as a peacock and so was I.  Ah, these boys, I know I said it yesterday but they are growing up fast.

Then he asked me out of the blue if cookie monster has teeth?  Then he was concerned about Elmo's teeth.  Toooo funny!!!:) Maybe he will be a dentist?

Why not:)

I was reading GoodGirlGoneGlad this evening and discovered the cool little world of iheartfaces.  They have a little photo contest this week called "Sun Flare" and I happened to snap a cute pic over the weekend that was kind of fitting.  So I figured what the hay? I'll submit it!

Happy Monday:)

Milestones

3.13.2011

*CD got some great stuff for his birthday.  Mama and Daddy gave him a new grill so he can flip burgers just like Daddy.  He also got a fire truck, some new matchbox cars, a new raincoat, boots, and suitcase from his Nana and Papa and a John Deere teddy bear and some goodies from his Grandma and Grandpa.  He's loving his new stuff.  He's already worn that adorable silhouette shirt his cousins gave him (it's a fave).  Next weekend we will celebrate for real with Evie and we're super excited.  On his birthday Thursday he said he wanted Evie and chocolate! Ha! This boy knows what he wants!

*Today we moved CD from the crib to a toddler bed.  He was so excited!  No problemo for him, he's very into his new bed.  He jumped right in and napped just like usual.  (I was afraid he might be tempted to get up and wander but so far so good!) This is the first time in 4 years that there has been no crib in our house...It feels a little strange.  I'm not really sad because CD is so in love with his new bed, but hm... it just feels so different.  My babies are growing way too fast!!! Okay maybe I am a little sad.

*I am almost finished with CJ's new room.  The paint is on the walls, art is framed, I made him a cute matching lampshade, and now I just need to finish bedding and a few details.  He's moving up to a full from a twin, did I mention that?  I hope to have it done by Tuesday.  I will be posting pictures!

*My sweet CJ has been really into Mama this weekend.  He requested to stay with me at home over running errands with Daddy!! What?! I was super excited and I thought Big CJ might cry.  It has been wonderful being the chosen one, ha!  I know it is probably short-lived so I am lovin' it while it lasts.

*The weather's been great!  Ah, that's all I can say.

*Since the weather's been great I am in need of some cute new flats, gotta put my riding boots away.  Big CJ is excited about this because he says he is sick of looking at those boots.  My sister in law had on a pair of these Tory Burch beauties last week....

and I was in love.  I know they are super popular and I see lots of girls wearing them but up close they just looked so fabulous.  But since we've been spending money like it grows on trees I will probably not be getting these puppies any time soon, so I'm going to head over to Dillards and look for a cheap imitation.  I wish we had a Nordstrom Rack here! We had one in Atlanta and I always got great shoes for a steal.

*DUKE whooped UNC today, mwa ha ha ha!! I love Duke basketball and I looove March Madness.

Have a great Sunday night =)

Happy 2nd Birthday sweet boy!!

3.10.2011

My sweet little C, you are 2 today! Every Mama says this but I just can’t believe it; the time has flown by!
You are such a blessing in our lives.  We thank God every day for you and we’re so thankful you are a healthy, happy little guy!  It is the greatest joy of my life to be Mama to you and CJ and to watch you grow!
You are quite adventurous.  You walked at 10 months but you tried well before that.  We actually had a little helmet for you because we couldn’t keep up and we wanted to protect you!

You crawl onto our tables, jump on the couch, and looove to be chased.  You scrunch your nose when you laugh and you’ve done this since you were several months old!
You look so much like your Daddy!  You have his handsome face.  You have pretty hazel eyes like your Papa and Uncle Davey.  And you adore your Daddy, both you and CJ.  He is your hero and it makes my heart smile.

Your cute little feet are almost always sweaty and you hate wearing socks.  Daddy calls you sticky feet!  You call your toes “piggies” and when you play with your feet you laugh and say “Shoooo-weeee”!
You are a great eater.  You’ll try just about anything and you are a meat and potatoes kind of guy.  You love steak, French fries, chicken, broccoli, apples, grapes, pomegranate, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, Chik-fil-A, macaroni and cheese (which you call mac and cheese-a-roni). You are a huge fan of chocolate milk.  You love anything sweet!
You and your big brother are playing so well together!  You have your moments for sure but you are so excited to see CJ when he’s been at school.  You scream his name so loud!  When I tell you we are going to pick him up you run to the door and laugh.  I pray you two will be best friends and will always look out for each other.

You wear a size 2T right now, about a 5 shoe, and you are outgrowing your 18-24 month Pedipeds.  We are squeezing in as many smocked john-johns as we can because I know the time is coming that you will be too big.  I dress you and Christian alike almost every day.  Your Nana sends you all of your clothes and you and Christian are as excited when the boxes arrive as I am!
You have a feisty temper, little one.  Daddy says you get this from me.  You are also a bit stubborn (which Daddy also blames on Mama=)…  From the time that you were two months old you have enjoyed hearing yourself scream.  Sometimes you will scream sooo loud and then smile and look around to see who notices!
You are a flirt, oh boy are you a flirt! You get this from Daddy no doubt.  You lower your little head and look up at girls and bat your little eyes.  I will have to keep my eye on you… You are quite friendly and often in public will scream out “Hi!!” to strangers.
You've grown so very much on your little journey from 1 to 2..Happy Birthday baby boy—you and CJ are the lights of our lives!  We love you more than the world!
