Laundry room redo: before and after

1.07.2013

Happy Monday!  I am so excited to share a room redo with you.  Getting some of my rooms *complete* is a goal for 2013 and I'm off to a good start. Let's hope I can keep up the mojo.

I have a nice big laundry room that has been an eye sore for 2 years.  I spend a LOT of time in this room and decided it needed to be a more inviting little space.  I cannot get laundry washed and put away fast enough to keep it tidy and desperately needed some shelves and storage.  Mr. C came to the rescue!  He is quite the carpenter when he needs to be and built a lovely set of shelves for me, as well as a hidden shelf under the counter that will hold 5 laundry baskets!

Before: (I know, don't judge, I live with 3 boys.)

After!

I tried to use what I had so the color scheme just sort of evolved.  I already had Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray paint, Alabaster white paint (cabinets and shelves), and the navy blue bins (Target).  I happened to find a rug at TJ Maxx with those colors that helped tie things together.  The only real expense was the wood for the shelves that Mr. C built.

The process:
  • Painted the grody yellowish cabinets Alabaster white by Sherwin Williams
  • Painted the walls Comfort Gray by Sherwin Williams
  • Used my favorite Lowe's drop cloths to make skirts for the tables to hide storage
  • New rug from TJ Maxx
  • New hardware from Hobby Lobby
  • Re-did a faux Roman Shade that was once in my kitchen
Done! So happy with it.  On to the next project!

Scenes from the weekend

10.15.2012

Weekends fly by, do they not?  Here's what's been going on here...

I finally wore my peter pan collar shirt to family pizza night on Friday.  This is the reality of trying to take a picture of myself (which is already awkward) while 3 wild boys are in the house.  Take 1;  The hubs decides to do his Risky Business dance.

Take 2.  My children show up to imitate him.  Who's the grown up here?

I tried to do the black dress/brown boot look (thanks Pinterest) on Sunday. My boots are 10 year old JCrew specials and they are a little orangie but I tried.

And....
1.  I found a wine I'm excited to try--named for my birth year, ha!  So old!!  I hope it's good!
2.  New chairs!!!! Finally, we are close to finishing my living room.  It's so overdue.  I'll have a little before and after later this week.  We're not done yet, but close.  It is amazing how giddy a new chair makes me.  I seriously love sitting in this chair!  And we have 2!  Come over for tea please!
3.  A little DIY action.  I really like this on my door but I'm not wild about the font on the C.  I may change it, it was so easy to make.
4.  Stella & Dot spikes.  I've wanted these forever, so glad I pulled the trigger because I LOVE them.

Back to pizza night... we found a New York style pizza place that my husband loves (I do too:) and we go almost every Friday.  Pepperoni for the little boys, eggplant/basil/ricotta for the big people.  So good!

And finally, remember last week when I told you I got the hair donut?  I loved it!  It does make an enormous bun, but..it makes my hair look thick and it's a nice change from the pony tail.  I liked it.  (p.s. that's not lint on my sweater, it's toothpaste on the kids' bathroom mirror, so hard to keep clean!:)

I hope you had a great weekend, can't wait to see what you guys have been up to!  Linking with friends.

Brain dump

10.04.2012

I miss talking about my life this week.  Here's what's in my head.

Last night I had a meeting with a physical therapist at our local Fleet Feet to discuss my knee pain.  Does everyone have Fleet Feet?  Oh I hope so, they are the bomb diggity for all things running.

I'm having moderate to severe pain in my knees again and I want to nip this in the bud.  I love running and I ain't gonna stop so we need to get these knees fixed.  I've always had weak knees due to my screwed up patellar tendons but you've got to work with what you've got.  After a hysterical series of tests like balancing on one knee and doing "clam" exercises for strangers, it was brought to my attention that I need to strengthen my core and glutes as well as undergo 4-8 weeks of PT.  The therapist also taped my knee up in some fancy configuration that makes me feel like an Olympic champion.  I really like the tape.

I love this trail mix from Whole Foods.  I've never even been a trail mix person. But this trail mix is better than ice cream.

I did a DIY and turned this ugly topless coffee table..

into this bench...(DIY coming one of these days)  PS I hate the carpet.

My boys are precious and love donuts.

I got this vest from ON (of course) and I love it.  Ma-hajor improvement on last years' which was a weird kind of shiny and reminded me of a trash bag.  This year it rivals the JCrew one.  Love!  Also, my ON just started carrying jewelry--does yours?  Lots of cute necklaces!

buy it here, lots of cute colors

Brain empty.  Have a lovely day!
