Midweek randoms

11.07.2012

Let's see, there's been a lot on the brain this week. The kids were out of school for election day and we've had lots of miscellaneous stuff to get done.  No complaints because I hate being bored but a warning this post may be all over the place!

I made a silent pact with myself to try to limit  (limit, not eliminate because that would make no sense) alcoholic beverages during the week.  I admit that mommy loves a drink at the end of the day.  I also suggested to myself to slow down on shopping.  It's a terrible mistake to plant these rules in my head because all I can think about is shopping and drinking.

On that note, I found some really cute weekend clothes for Mr. C at ON.  I feel so selfless shopping for someone else.  And the Mr. deserves some hip clothes too:)

I also treated myself to this tunic because they only had one in my size left (you know how that goes). FYI It's so much cuter in person.

I found the most perfect boots (aka, the right color, the right fit, the right price) at TJ Maxx.  I had no choice but to buy them since my 3 year old equestrians got a hole in the zipper this week!

Aren't these cute too? I never wore flats until I became a mom (and twisted my ankle on my welcome mat while holding a baby, things change!)

I also had to get the boys real coats.  Tennessee winters are chilly (although nothing like the old Pennsylvania winters from our early marriage days).  Mr. C has always remarked that the fancy coats I get the boys don't really keep them warm and dry, they just look cute, and he had a point.  So I found these at L.L.Bean and I'm really happy with them.  They are ski worthy, waterproof, warm but not too bulky, and a classic navy.  I considered Boden's version but they are only shower proof, not fully water resistant.  I still always match the boys and will do so until they leave for college but this meant that I had to order my 5 year old a size that is technically smaller than what I wanted to order.  But...LLB has an extra seam (called a growth cuff, very cool!) you can rip out to add an inch and a half to sleeve length, and that makes all the difference. The coat actually fits him perfectly.

In other good news, it was wonderfully overcast on Monday and I threw the boys in the truck and headed to my favorite photo shoot park in hopes of capturing the Christmas card picture.  I don't know if this is the one but if I don't get any more chances, it'll surely do!  SUCH a relief to get the picture done!  Mr. C was grateful, photo shoots are stressful!

Have y'all tried brownie brittle?  It's quite yummy with cold milk (or coffee with Bailey's:)

Until tomorrow friends, I'm hoping to do a post of my living room before and after, stay tuned:)

Weekend Update

11.05.2012

Aaaand it's Monday again!  I hope y'all had fun weekends (I'll be checking in to see, ha!).  We had a good one; it started out with no plans (but I quickly realized I do not like feeling bored) so we got busy on Sunday.

Here's what we did (in no particular order:)

Found a food truck. Sadly they were closing and didn't have any more of the fancy stuff so we had hot dogs; but they were fantastic hot dawgs.  So yay!  I'm now stalking them all on Twitter so I won't miss out anymore.

Got a mani on Friday (and a pedi! with my 3 year old in tow! I was desperate!) and I love this color. It's a shellac and had no name, just a bunch of numbers, boo! Why don't they name them? I'm calling it Cocoa.

Worked on my arm party.  I needed a big gold watch because I want to wear my Stella spikes constantly and they don't look good with my silver watch.  So I splurged (kidding).  No Michael Kors here, this is a Tar-jay special, but it'll do!

Went for a run on Saturday and it did not go well (sad face).  I still had major pain in my right knee and had to stop at mile 2.  I iced that night and headed out again on Sunday (per PT's orders).  Surprise -- my first good run in a while!!  It wasn't pain free, but I easily ran 3 miles at an 8:15 pace.  It felt amazing!  I hope I'm close to a comeback and was thrilled to see improvement. PT mentioned last Thursday that we may be able to start building my distance again, oh I hope so!

Went to church.  How cute are the little men in their very first sportcoats? (Thanks Nana!)

And, I HEART flannel.  I want to wear it every day, so comfy and warm! Heading back to ON!

Linking with some friends today!

11.02.2012

We had such a fun Halloween! I love dressing up and I think I'm rubbing off on Mr. C, he didn't even slightly protest this year.  He was ready to be Batman.  You should have seen him working his cape--so proud!  What a great hubs and daddy:)  Our friends came over and fueled up on Pioneer Woman's tortilla soup (which by the way was seriously delicious, do make it soon, you'll love it.)

How cute is it that Spiderman is pointing out an airplane to Superman?  Precious memory.

My friend (who always picks the best wine) had this little treat for us.  It was such a delicious red, very light and slightly fruity, I loved it.  I'll be adding more Vampires to my wine cellar (if I had a wine cellar).

Speaking of vampires, I just saw that Breaking Dawn 2 opens this month, I secretly can't wait:)

This week was cah-razy and I'm sorry I didn't get to comment as much on your blogs!  But I'm reading and trying to keep up!  And thanks for your comments here, I love reading them.  Hope you have a great weekend!

Mixed bag + Happy Halloween

10.31.2012

My favorite running song right now is by Gym Class Heroes with Adam Levine..Stereo Hearts. I know it's old but who cares, so am I:) My husband finds it amusing that I walk around rapping. One of my favorite things about running is getting to listen to music that isn't kid friendly.  I love Pink too--yay for angry girl music!  Raise Your Glass is also a fave.

Speaking of running, I picked up this very cool shirt at Academy.  Love!  I feel so tough when I wear it. The cause is close to my heart because some special ladies in my life are fighters.

We're gearing up for Halloween this evening and making final costume preparations....go big or go home!

I have a good friend that always cracks me up with her witty comments.  This was last night's text message discussion about my Halloween costume.

It's supposed to be coooooold so I'm cooking this tonight...I've been dying to make it.

And some friends are joining us -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNIFER!!!!!!

Happy Halloween friends!! Hope you have fun tonight!

The weekend + Sandy stuff

10.30.2012

Happy Monday Tuesday friends! I lost a day, it's so hard to keep up:)  First, our family in New York is getting pummeled by Sandy:( But Mr. C talked to them and they are doing fine--just soggy.  This is a picture from the morning before the big part of the storm hit in Centerport, NY where we got married.  We had pictures made right under that sign...and right now it's under water.  Eek!  Just hope everyone is safe:)

So hang in there friends and family:)  We are thinking of you.

I have some pictures to share from the weekend.

1.  If only my legs were as long as my shadow's.
2.  Blood orange sangria from Burger Up {our fave burger joint}. Whoo gracious, it was strong!
3.  The most delicious burger ever:  bison burger with white cheddar, fried red onions, fried jalapenos, romaine, tomato, and honey dijon aioli.  Sinful!!
4.  Fried pickles--impossible to photograph without little fingers digging in.
5.  Chobani addiction.
6.  Leopard jeans and pointy toe shoes (haven't worn those in forever!)
7.  Little man on top of hay bales.
8.  One sinister pumpkin: this was the only face the boys could agree on so I went with it. EEK!
9.  Pillows from a local artisan at the Nashville Flea Market: a dear friend and I went on Friday and had so much fun!  I kid you not, we saw these pillows from across a crowded room and the angels started singing.  I'll post a room update at some point.

Now, if you're still with me, I have a fun story!

I mentioned we ate at Burger Up on Saturday and we were in for some excitement (celebrity sighting!) It was pretty crowded and they have a tiny waiting area so we were elbow to elbow with the people in line in front of us.  Guess who it was??

Scott Hamilton (Olympic gold medal figure skater) and his family and friends.  Y'all know I am a geek about celebrities and I'm easily starstruck.

I did not jump up and down and squeal that I was honored to be in the presence of an Olympic gold medalist and that I am in awe of a world class athlete who has knees strong enough to land countless triple axels when it is all I can do to go for a jog without needing physical therapy.

I did not ask for his autograph and a photo and I did not call my mom and squeal into the phone and ask him to say hello to her. I did not tell him that I watched him win countless figure skating championships on television and dreamed of being a figure skater as a little girl and wearing those beautiful fancy sparkly costumes they get to wear.

I did not mention that I saw him perform on Stars on Ice and that I.am.a.huge.fan.

But I wanted to:)

And that was our excitement for the weekend--even the hubs was grinning.

And did I mention his friend complimented me on how well dressed my children were?  Made me feel good:)!!

Family picture outtakes as promised!

The "what are we doing?"...

The "we are tired, silly, and not interested"...

The Calvin Klein...

The "please let me fix your hair"...

The angry grass pull...

And the "we give up" discussion...

Sarah did great but her subjects just weren't cooperating.  Looks like we're in for a re-shoot!

Hope y'all have a fun weekend:)

Hey, look!
